Frequently Asked Questions

How does HoopDee figure out expiration times for my milk?

We use the Breast Milk Storage and Preparation and baby formula guidelines to calculate expiration times you see in the app. So HoopDee gives you smart suggestions that match trusted health recommendations.

What should I do if the app says my milk has expired?

Expired doesn’t always mean unusable — it’s just a recommendation based on CDC guidance. You decide what’s best for your baby. The app will move expired milk to your Expired section so you can still see the details if you want to manually track it.

Can HoopDee track my frozen milk supply?

Yes! The app tracks your frozen supply and sends you notifications as frozen milk approaches expiration.

The CDC states breast milk begins to lose nutritional value after 6 months, but can be stored for up to 12 months. The HoopDee app will allow users to choose if they want to keep their milk in the freezer for 6 or 12 months and freezer expiration times will calculate accordingly.

Does HoopDee track inventory in coolers or deep freezers?

Not yet — but this is something we’re working on as HoopDee continues to grow.

Can I invite other caregivers to help manage inventory?

Absolutely! Just open the app, tap your initials in the top right, go to Families, and invite anyone from your contacts.

How does the Supply Calculator work?

We estimate your supply based on how much your baby eats each day and how much you currently have logged.

  • Manual Counting — you enter how much your baby consumes.
  • Auto-populate — this uses the last 7 days of feeding data to estimate supply automatically.

If you haven’t entered 7 days of feeds yet, use Manual counting until Auto-populate has enough data.

These are estimates — always check with your baby’s provider if you have doubts.

Why are some options grayed out when I add milk or formula?

We made certain combinations (like freezing thawed breast milk or baby formula) impossible to select in the app because baby formula and thawed milk shouldn’t be frozen — we want to help you avoid mistakes.

How should I enter bottles with mixed breast milk and formula?

If you mix breast milk with baby formula, we suggest logging it as “baby formula” since formula has a shorter shelf life. This helps keep expiration estimates accurate.

How do I log bottles if I use the pitcher method?

When you pour from a pitcher into bottles, we recommend entering the milk using the time of the first pump before you poured into the pitcher. It helps HoopDee track storage timing correctly.

Why does HoopDee ask for my phone number?

Your phone number is used as a unique ID — and we never share or sell your information.

Does HoopDee sell any of my information?

HoopDee does not sell any of your data.
